How to do the Schroth walk (and what it helps with)
the Schroth method
is a non-surgical treatment for scoliosis, kyphosis and other spinal disorders. Created by someone with scoliosis herself, the Schroth method is catered specifically to meet the unique needs of the scoliosis population. The goals are to strengthen the surrounding muscles, support posture, and increase muscle tone
the Schroth walk
is a great dynamic exercise that challenges our scoliosis population in their corrections. Our clients often do this as a warm-up exercise during their physiotherapy sessions.

things we look at during the Schroth walk:
general lengthening
expansion of the ribcage
head position
clavicle position
shoulder girdle position
pelvis position
knee position
foot and ankle position
spine correction
reasons why we love the Schroth walk:
Provides an opportunity to lengthen and actively decompress the spine
Challenges the stability of the grounding leg
Focuses on properly transferring the load to each limb
Activates all areas of the body to participate
Gives permission to walk slowly, which is actually much harder
what to expect during Schroth physical therapy
as physical therapists certified in the Schroth method, our main goal is to prevent your scoliosis from worsening while improving pain and getting you back to the things you love.
During your physical therapy session you can expect
✔️ to work with a Schroth certified physical therapist
✔️ home exercise program catered towards your unique curvature
✔️ manage pain through integrating breathing exercises
✔️ a customized movement plan using evidence based treatments
✔️ support and guidance from our caring physios
